How did India get its name?
Our dearest motherland "India" is one of the oldest countries. This true land is mentioned in the ancient literature Ramayan, Mahabharata and various Puranas.
(1) It is said that in ancient times a king named 'Bharata' ruled this country. From his name, this country is called "Bharatvarsha". In the Vishnu Purana, it is said that the countries to the north and south of the Himalayas are called Bharatvarsha, where Bharata's children (Bharti) live.
2) Modern historian Dr. Ramsharan Sharma said that. After an ancient tribe called Bharata, this country was named Bharatvarsha and the people of Bharatvarsha were called "Bharata-santati" (or descendants of Bharata)
(3) Our country is known as “India” to foreigners. This name is derived from the Sanskrit word Sindhu. Foreigners first met the brave Indians of the Sindhs and named the country after the river Sindhu. Ancient Persians -pronounced Sindhu as Hindu'. Since then, the common name of Indians in that era became Hindu and over time the name of this country became Hindusthan or the home of Hindus. Greeks and Romans pronounced Hindus as Indus. It is from this ancient Indus that the modern name "India" originates.
